ABOUT GROUNDWORKS LAB
The Groundworks Lab is a year-round program that offers theatremakers the time, space, and resources they need to develop their work through artist-driven, process-centered workshops. Welcoming projects spearheaded by playwrights, directors, designers, and other artists, the Groundworks Lab adapts to meet the needs of each project, ranging from single-day readings to week-long workshops.
Groundworks Lab is curated by MTC’s artistic staff on a rolling basis. Rehearsal space is provided at MTC’s 43rd Street Studios, and each creative team is equipped with the resources they need for the duration of the workshop—including artist stipends, casting, stage management, and full support from our literary staff. Labs may take any form or structure, and may or may not include a presentation depending on the unique needs of each team of artists.
No matter the shape or size, Groundworks Lab strives to center the artistic process, encourage experimentation, and foster a safe and inclusive space for creative risk-taking.
